Mirador del Naranjo de Bulnes

The Mirador del Naranjo de Bulnes offers a front-row seat to one of Spain's most iconic natural monuments: the Naranjo de Bulnes, also known as Picu Urriellu. This 2,519-metre limestone monolith rises like a cathedral spire from the heart of the Picos de Europa, its sheer western face — a 600-metre vertical wall — representing one of the most formidable challenges in Spanish mountaineering. From this carefully positioned viewpoint, the peak reveals itself in all its dramatic majesty.

The scene is pure mountain grandeur. The Naranjo dominates the foreground, its pale limestone summit catching the first and last light of the day, while the surrounding massifs of the Picos de Europa — the Cornión, the Urrieles, and the Andara — form a wild amphitheatre of peaks, ridges, and deep glacial valleys. On clear mornings, the play of light across the mountain's vertical face is mesmerising, as shadows trace the contours of the famous West Face route.

Located near the village of Poo de Cabrales in Asturias, the viewpoint is accessible by road, making it possible for visitors of all abilities to experience this legendary peak without undertaking the multi-day hike that its base camp requires. Interpretive panels explain the mountain's climbing history and geology, while the surrounding Cabrales region offers world-famous cheese and cider to round out the experience.
