The Atlantic coastline delivers some of Europe's best surfing, with 60 surf spots across the three countries. Morocco's Taghazout point breaks, the longboard-friendly shores of Spain's Cantabria and Galicia, and Portugal's Ericeira World Surf Reserve offer waves for every level across one of the longest surf seasons on the continent.
Finally, our 45 scenic viewpoints — richest along the Spanish and Portuguese coasts — reward a short walk with sweeping ridgelines, dramatic sea cliffs, canyon overlooks and the sunset miradouros that the Iberian Peninsula does so well. Marrakech is the gateway to the High Atlas mountains, with hiking trails from Imlil to Jbel Toubkal (4,167 m) within a 90-minute drive. Camping in the Ourika Valley or the Agafay Desert offers overnight options close to the city. For surfing, Taghazout is a 3-hour drive west on the Atlantic coast. The city also has viewpoints at Jbel Takerkoust and for sunset over the Atlas range.
Barcelona is surrounded by hiking in the Collserola Park (8 km from city centre), Montserrat (50 km), and the Pyrenees (2 hours north). Camping options line the Costa Brava coast north of the city. Viewpoints include the Bunkers del Carmel, Montjuïc, and Tibidabo — all within the city limits.
Around Lisbon, hike the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park or the cliffs at Cabo da Roca. The Algarve has the Fishermen's Trail on the Costa Vicentina, world-class surfing at Sagres and Ericeira (30 min from Lisbon), and camping at Orbitur parks along the coast. Viewpoints include Cabo de São Vicente and the Miradouro da Ponta do Pego.
Morocco's outdoor scene divides into three regions. The High Atlas offers hiking, trekking and mountain camping — Toubkal National Park is the centrepiece. The Atlantic coast from Taghazout to Essaouira is the country's surf hub with consistent swells from October to April. The Sahara in the southeast offers desert camping and stargazing near Erg Chebbi and Merzouga.
