Vilamoura Surf Project operates on the golden beaches of the central Algarve, in and around the upscale resort of Vilamoura. This area of the coast is known more for its golf courses, marina, and five-star hotels than for big-wave surfing, but the beaches here offer consistent, quality waves that are particularly well suited to beginners and longboarders. The south-facing aspect of the coast means the waves are filtered and generally smaller than on the west coast, creating a forgiving, warm-water environment that is ideal for learning.

The surf school is run by a team of experienced, ISA-certified instructors who have been teaching on these beaches for years. ## The Algarve Coast The central Algarve coast from Vilamoura east to Faro offers long, sandy beaches with multiple sandbar peaks. The waves are generally smaller (0.5-2 metres) and more forgiving than the west coast, making this ideal territory for beginners and intermediate surfers.

## Best Conditions The surf season on the south coast peaks from October to April when winter swells wrap around the coast. Summer brings smaller, cleaner waves that are perfect for learning. The south-facing aspect means the coast is protected from the prevailing north wind, so conditions are often clean.
