PortugalSurfCamp

Baleal, Peniche

PortugalSurfCamp is set in the quiet village of Carvoeira, just south of Ericeira, on a stretch of coastline that was designated the first World Surfing Reserve in Europe. The area's surf credentials are extraordinary: within a few kilometres are some of Portugal's most famous waves, including the powerful reef break at Coxos, the long right-hander at Ribeira d'Ilhas (home to major surf competitions), and the exposed beach breaks at Foz do Lizandro. The camp itself is a relaxed, modern property with a pool, sun terrace, and a communal lounge where the surf talk flows freely.

The camp's location in Carvoeira offers a strategic advantage. It's close enough to the Ericeira breaks to reach them in minutes, but far enough from the town centre to provide peace and quiet after a day of surfing. The coaching team knows the Ericeira coast intimately — the shifting sandbanks, the tide windows for each reef, the wind directions that make or break each spot. This local knowledge is invaluable, especially for a place like Ericeira where the best waves are reef breaks that require careful timing and respect for the rocks.

Ericeira itself is one of Portugal's great surf towns. The old whitewashed buildings climb the hillside above a series of coves and headlands, and the town is famous for its seafood — particularly the grilled fish and the rich seafood rice served in the traditional restaurants along the main square. The streets are lined with surf shops, board shapers, and cafes buzzing with international surfers. It is a town that breathes surf culture, and staying at PortugalSurfCamp puts you right in the middle of it.

## Ericeira World Surfing Reserve Designated in 2011, the Ericeira World Surfing Reserve protects seven world-class surf breaks along a 4-kilometre stretch of coast: Coxos, São Lourenço, Cave, Crazy Left, Reef, Ribeira d'Ilhas, and Pescadores. All are within easy reach of the camp.

## Key Breaks Coxos: A powerful right-hand reef break that peels over rocks. Best at mid-to-high tide with a northwest swell. Ribeira d'Ilhas: A long, consistent right-hander that works at most tides. São Lourenço: A hollow right that barrels on big swells.

## Camp Packages Weekly packages include 7 nights' accommodation, daily breakfast, daily surf coaching, equipment, and transfers from Lisbon airport. Private coaching and custom packages are also available.
