Peniche Surfcamp

Peniche

Peniche Surfcamp is situated in the heart of the Peniche peninsula, a surf destination that punches far above its size on the global stage. The camp is a short walk from the main breaks of Baleal and a five-minute drive from Supertubos, ensuring guests are always in the right place at the right time. The property is a classic surf camp: unpretentious, functional, and built around a large common area where guests swap stories of the day's waves over cold beers. The vibe is friendly and unpretentious, attracting a mix of solo travellers, groups of friends, and families.

The surf coaching at Peniche Surfcamp is designed to be flexible and inclusive. The team assesses each guest's ability on arrival and groups them accordingly. For beginners, the gentle rolling waves at the protected end of Baleal beach provide an ideal learning environment, with soft sandbanks and consistent, waist-high waves. For those who already have a foundation, the instructors guide groups to the shifting peaks further along the beach or to the more challenging breaks like Supertubos and the reef at Papoa. The goal is always to put you in the right wave for your level, not to burn you out in conditions beyond your ability.

Peniche itself is a lively town with a proud fishing heritage and a growing surf culture. The old town has excellent seafood restaurants, lively bars, and a weekly market. The surrounding countryside — the Berlengas Islands, the medieval town of Óbidos, and the dramatic cliffs of the Silver Coast — offers plenty to explore on rest days. With Lisbon airport just an hour's drive south, Peniche is one of the most accessible world-class surf destinations in Europe.

## Surf Breaks of Peniche The peninsula offers an extraordinary range of breaks. Supertubos (hollow, fast right-hand barrel), Baleal (long right-hander, 100+ metre rides), Consolação (left-hand reef break), and Papoa (sheltered reef with a right and a left). There is something for everyone here.

## Camp Packages Weekly packages include 6 nights' accommodation, daily breakfast and lunch, daily surf sessions, equipment, transfers, and evening activities. Half-week and weekend packages are also available for shorter stays.

## Best Surfing Conditions September through April delivers the heaviest swell. The famous Supertubos starts to work from 2 metres and can handle 4-5 metre swell at its peak. Summer provides smaller, cleaner waves perfect for beginners and longboarders.
