MissionToSurf Portugal
Ericeira
MissionToSurf Portugal is based in the historic town of Aljezur, the gateway to the Vicentine Coast, one of Europe's last truly wild coastlines. This is a landscape defined by contrast: vast, empty stretches of golden sand meeting deep blue water; dark cliffs topped with windswept vegetation; and a sense of solitude that is increasingly rare in European surf travel. The camp itself is a hub of energy and enthusiasm, catering predominantly to intermediate and advanced surfers who are serious about improvement but equally serious about enjoying the ride.
The surf breaks along this stretch of coast are world-class and relatively uncrowded by European standards. The area is famous for powerful beach breaks like Monte Clérigo and Arrifana, as well as the long, grinding left point at Amado, which peels for hundreds of metres over a rocky bottom. The MissionToSurf team monitors swell and wind forecasts carefully, running two surf sessions per day to catch the best conditions at whatever break is working best. The guiding is flexible — if you want a mellow session to work on technique, or you want to push your limits at a heavy barrel, the instructors adapt to your goals.
Beyond the surf, MissionToSurf encourages guests to explore the natural environment. The surrounding Natural Park offers world-class hiking trails along the cliff tops, kayaking in the Aljezur River estuary, and mountain biking through the pine forests. Evening meals are a social affair, with a mix of Portuguese and international cuisine served in the camp's restaurant, followed by surf video analysis sessions or simply relaxing with a drink under the stars. It's the kind of place where friendships form quickly and return visits are the norm.
## Accommodation Options The camp offers a range of accommodation from shared dorms to private double and twin rooms. All rooms are modern, clean, and within walking distance of the town centre. The main building houses the restaurant, lounge, and equipment storage.
## The Vicentine Coast The coastline between Porto Covo and Sagres is a protected Natural Park, meaning development is minimal and the beaches remain in a near-wild state. The surf breaks here are predominantly beach breaks over sand, with some reef and point setups at the headlands.
## Best Swell Conditions This coast is exposed to the full force of the Atlantic, with the best conditions from October to May. Winter brings consistent swell in the 2-5 metre range, while spring and autumn offer cleaner conditions with smaller, more manageable waves. Summer is quieter but still produces fun waves on the southern exposures.
