Miradouro da Graça
Graça, Lissabon
Miradouro da Graça is one of Lisbon's most cherished viewpoints, set in the historic Graça neighbourhood atop one of the city's seven hills. From its wide terrace, visitors are treated to a sweeping panorama that encompasses the domed Pantheon of Santa Engrácia, the winding alleyways of Alfama cascading down to the river, and the sturdy silhouette of São Jorge Castle. The scene is quintessentially Lisbon — terracotta rooftops, whitewashed walls, and the broad ribbon of the Tagus stretching toward the Atlantic.
The viewpoint is centred around a small garden with a statue of the archangel São Miguel, and its real draw is the café terrace that spills onto the square. Grab a _bica_ (Portuguese espresso) or a cold imperial beer and find a seat at one of the outdoor tables; the atmosphere is sociable and relaxed, with Lisbonites and travellers alike soaking up the view. Street musicians often set up here, their guitars and fado vocals drifting across the terrace as the afternoon shadows lengthen.
Connected by a short stroll to Miradouro da Senhora do Monte a few blocks uphill, Graça offers a more bustling, convivial experience. It is especially magical at sunset, when the western sky turns shades of pink and violet and the castle begins to glow in the fading light. Tram 28 passes nearby, making this an easy stop on any Lisbon sightseeing itinerary.
